Usk Ministry Area

LiFT 2nd July

Dear Friends,

Another week has rolled round and here I am wondering what I need to update you about, and what news I have.

The Ministry Area Transition Teams are continuing to meet and I hope that by now you will have received a copy of the new Bulletin publication produced by the Communications Team. Please let me know if you didn’t receive it. The Bulletin will become a regular publication to keep us all up to date with regard to the various developments as the year progresses. Dee Seabourne is our representative for communication.

The news about being allowed to sing has been well received, and some people have even told me that singing with a mask on hasn’t been that bad! I don’t want to be the bringer of bad news, but the local numbers are rising (from low 20s to mid 30s per 100,000 over the last week). The regulations from the Church in Wales insist that we can only sing if the number remains below 50/100,000. As you can see, singing next week is looking unlikely unless the numbers slow or drop. I must ask you to remain vigilant in our churches, be cautious around doorways where we are in danger of huddling, and take care to maintain social distancing of 2m. I’m sorry, I don’t like it much either, but I’d like it even less if someone became ill. (Our neighbouring Ministry Areas are not singing yet). Thank you to everyone involved in making sure our churches are safe for everyone.

Finally, can I set you a prayer challenge? On Monday I spent the morning in prayer, praying for each of our church communities, and praying for our congregations by name. There is something very powerful about praying for individuals and churches, out loud, deliberately, and intentionally.

I find it strengthening and encouraging, and it ensures that I think about people, situations, and communities with love and hope. I would be delighted if I knew that others were joining me in this practice.

Please let me know if you would like help with this, or have any ideas that might be supportive.

As usual I am posting the link to Compline below, which you are most welcome to join. It really is the best way to end the day.

Have a lovely weekend, and be in touch if you would like.

With my love,

Sally xx
