Your Mission & Ministry

Mission & Ministry

Find out about the many aspects of ministry across our Diocese, from children, youth & family ministry to vocations, and discipleship training and resources. There is also information about schools, pioneer ministry and the development of Ministry Areas. You should find everything you need to help explore mission and ministry in your local area.

Discipleship

Discipleship and training for ministry – like any part of the Christian life – should be shaped to look like the communities in which they take place. Serving in ministry in one context will look very different from serving in another. In the same way, discipleship will look different depending on how a local community sees the world, how they speak, and how they understand their calling.  Find out more here.

Vocations

Is God calling you to work within his church? In one sense the answer to this question should be ‘yes’ for all Christian people. But this will mean different things for different people.

As a start, you might want to reflect and pray on the question “How could I use my particular gifts, passions and personality to serve God?”

Go on to talk with people you trust – your vicar or chaplain, your family and friends.

And then maybe you’re feeling ready to go further with your sense of calling – great! There are events happening around the UK where you can find out more about vocational ministry, meet other people like you, and chat to ordinands and vicars who have been through the process.

Stewardship

Stewardship is about considering what we are and what we have as a gift from God to be used for his service: our time, our talents, our money, our possessions….all of us.1 Chronicles 29:14 (NIV): “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.”This is not easy and is definitely counter-cultural. Jesus taught us to love people and use things – and not the other way around, as society often seems to do. Our giving should be an act of thanksgiving, joyous, generous – not a tip for great service! For further information about nurturing and growing stewardship as part of faith and discipleship and advice on the best use of all the resources available to grow the kingdom of God in their local arealook here.
