What’s the Vicar Doing for Lent?
Hello lovely people,
You may or may not be wondering what I plan to do to make Lent a time of focus and spiritual growth. I thought I’d write and tell you!!
I’m doing two things.
My cassock has asked that I abstain from cake and biscuits. This will be a tough one – a real sacrifice, and one I would value your help with please. You know I love my cake, so my plan is to purposefully and prayerfully say “no thank you” every time I have a cuppa, and to then put the money I’ve saved to one side, for the bishop’s Lent appeal. Please pray for success with this.
The second plan is perhaps more exciting – it occurs to me that for the most part our buildings only really experience what I would call liturgical worship – services. I know some are open throughout the day and are prayed in by those who venture in, but this is not so across the whole area. With that in mind I will be praying, on the following Mondays in the following places.
Monday 21st March – 10-12pm Wolvesnewton12.30-2.30pm Usk3-5pm Llantrisant
Monday 28th March – 10-12pm Llandegfedd12.30-2.30pm Tredunnock3-5pm Llanhennock
Monday 4th April – 10-12pm Coed y Paen12.30-2.30pm Llanbadoc3-5pm Llangybi
There will be no format, no words, just simple quiet, still prayer, asking for the Holy Spirit to move in that place and stir up the faith of the community. If you would like to join me then that would be amazing, but there is no pressure whatsoever, and please don’t expect to chat or be at a traditional service, this really is just about praying privately. If you have something specific that you would like me to pray for then I will be very very happy to do that, you might like to have a prayer request sheet in church that I can pick up when I am there.Over the course of three days every single church will have been prayed in and you will have all been prayed for by name. Now that sounds like a Lent discipline that could make a difference don’t you think?
I’ll leave you with that to soak in, please let me know your thoughts and as I said, you are very welcome to join me, it would be rather lovely.
Hoping to see some of you for the Ash Wednesday service tomorrow evening.
With my love,
