LiFT 19th March
Good afternoon friends,
I trust you have had a good week and are enjoying the brighter weather?
Lots to tell you this week so I shall just give highlights of what to look forward to and will then send out a series of specific emails with clear headings next week so that each event or service will be easy for you to spot in your inbox. I hope that works for you.
Further to my announcement about worship in our buildings I am very pleased to tell you that four of our churches will be celebrating Easter with a Eucharist on Sunday 4th April. All the services will be at 10.30am and if your usual church isn’t holding a service you are very welcome to attend somewhere else. It would be wonderful to have our churches at capacity for our Easter celebrations.
The churches are
St. Thomas a Becket, Wolvesnewton
Ss Peter, Paul, and John, Llantrisant
St Cybi’s, Llangybi
Priory Church of St. Mary, Usk.
All the churches will be limited in numbers and strictly adhering to the Covid protocols so please contact a warden to let them know in advance that you wish to attend. Unless you are medically exempt please wear a mask. Thank you to all the ministry team and church officers who are working so hard to ensure that we can open safely and with good heart, this really is a team effort! Don’t forget there is no pressure or obligation to come back to the buildings before you are ready, we will continue to offer online opportunities.
I think I have spoken before of the importance of entering into Holy Week as fully as possible so that we can experience the true joy of Christ’s resurrection on Easter morning. To that end you may like to make a note of the following, I will send out links nearer the time –
Sunday 28th March 8pm Zoom
Monday 29th March 8pm Zoom
Tuesday 30th March 8pm Zoom
Wednesday 31st March 8pm Zoom
Maundy Thursday Last Supper Service
Thursday 1st April 7pm Zoom
Good Friday Stations of the Cross
Noon Usk Ministry Area YouTube
Priory church of St. Mary, Usk, open for private prayer noon-3pm
Lots happening and again I am immensely grateful to all those involved in leading and organising these opportunities.
Can I also remind you of our service of remembrance for all those who have died recently. This will be available on YouTube from 4pm on Tuesday 23rd March. It has been put together by the MA pastoral team and will hopefully bring a little comfort to those who are grieving.
Finally, we have had a very kind invitation from Fr. Bernard at the church of Sts David Lewis and Francis Xavier to join them for their Stations of the Cross on Friday 26th March at 3pm. This is a lovely opportunity to share in our Lenten journey with our Catholic brothers and sisters, so I encourage you to consider it, and hope I will see some of you there.
And after all that there is very little time, space, or energy to get chatty and to encourage you! If you made it this far you did brilliantly! I rather hope that after Easter we will be able to settle into a pattern of worship that will offer me the space to do more than email you with a list of dates and links! But for now I rejoice that we are joined by the power of technology and I give thanks that so many of you are willing to embrace it. Slowly slowly we are going to be able to meet in person, and I look forward to that with excitement.
My love and prayers for you all,
