Becoming the people God calls us to be

Bishops’s Letter – 9th March 2018

The Bishop writes…..

9th March 2018

Dear Friends,

Bishop richardAs some of you will know, Bishop June and I engaged in a question and answer session with some of the young people of Llandaff and Monmouth Dioceses this week.  Appropriately called ‘Grill the Bishops’, it was a really enjoyable time and it was good to discover what is on young people’s minds.  We have some excellent young people in the church who are keen to explore their faith, particularly in relationship to society and our common values.  I am grateful to Revd Becca Stevens, our Young Vocations Advisor, and to her opposite number in Llandaff, Revd Wendy Tayler, who jointly organised the event.

New Appointment of Revd Wendy Tayler

Talking of Wendy, it’s good to announce that Wendy is joining the Diocese as an Associate Priest in the Caerleon Ministry Area. Wendy brings a great deal of experience in pioneer work as she previously worked as a Sister for the Church Army before being ordained. She is leaving her post as Team Vicar in Neath Ministry Area in Llandaff Diocese.  Wendy will be Licensed at St Cadoc’s, Caerleon on the 4th June at 7.00pm.

Appointment of Mrs Vicki Brackpool

We welcome the return of Vicki Brackpool to the Diocese.  Vicki will work as a part time Children, Youth and Family Ministry Adviser working alongside Rachel Nelmes.  We wish the team every blessing for their ministry along with Dr Annette Daley, our Diocesan Director of Education.

Retirement of Revd Den Richards

Last week saw the retirement of the Revd Den Richards from Caldicot Ministry Area. He goes with grateful thanks and blessing for his years of faithful service in the Diocese.  Den’s gentle pastoral ministry has been greatly appreciated by parishioners and his wit and smile has lifted the hearts of both clergy and lay.

Den, and of course Pam, have played a significant role in the life of the Diocese and we wish them all the best for the future. Pam continues in her ministry as School Chaplain in Caldicot.

For Our Prayers

We give thanks for the young people of our Diocese and pray that we may help them flourish in their journey of faith. We also pray for our Church Schools as well as the Community Schools.

Bishop Richard
